Another one safely home.

Yesterday, we laid to rest a man I honestly never thought I would be doing the funeral for. He was 83, so I shouldn't have been super surprised. But he was just the kind of guy, so young at heart, so healthy and vibrant, that I figured he'd live to be 109. I had penciled him in for my retirement party 30 years from now.

But on Thursday, I was called quickly to his bedside in Minneapolis, where he was to take his last breath in Abbott Northwestern Hospital, surrounded by family as I read the 23rd Psalm.

The funeral was a celebration really. A time to recall stories that Bob loved to tell. A time to recall stories of the way Bob's life intersected with ours. We laughed. We cried. We propped each other up with the audacious hope we Christians have in the face of death.

Still, the world has less laughter and joy today because Bob has left it. Rest in peace, my friend.

One more thing. Bob was an avid reader of my blog. And he wouldn't want me to dedicate the whole post to him. So, we had a little fun this afternoon, rigging up the video camera to a power wheels jeep. This is what it feels like to drive one of those things:

And that's the news from Browerville.
