Inviting Your Prayers ... Yet Again!

Grace and peace to you in the name of Christ.

It seems like I’ve spent a lot of time this summer inviting you to prayer.  I’m at it again.  Please hold two families in your prayer today and in the coming weeks.  First, pray for Cora Steffens and her family as they grieve the death of Cora’s son, Duane.  Duane passed away this past week after an heroic battle with cancer.

Also, please pray for Karen Erkenbrack and her family as they grieve the death of Karen’s husband, LaVern.  Lavern died on Tuesday afternoon and his funeral will be at Immanuel this coming Saturday, August 14.

Also, I’m humbling asking you to consider supporting our Wadena Rotary Club today (I am the new president as our July 1!).  Our Corn and Chicken Feed is today (Thursday, August 12) from 11a to 7p.  Tickets are $11 at the door.  And you can support our youth at the same time who are also serving a pie and ice cream social.  See you at BN park!

The Immanuel Youth will be selling delicious Leeseberg Sweet Treats pies at the Rotary Corn and Chicken Feed at BN Park from 11a-7p on August 12.  Proceeds support youth attending the ELCA National Youth Gathering next July.

Baby Care Items Needed
ICW is putting together baby care kits and need the following items to complete each kit: 1) Cloth Diapers; 2) Dark Hand Towels; 3) Bars of Soap; 4) Sleepers w/o feet (size 6-18 months).  Items can be placed in the plastic tote in the concourse

Silent Auction Items Available
Be sure to check out the two silent auction baskets that were donated to our youth program in the course.  One has Herb Brooks memorabilia the other has kettle corn and “I love my cat” items.  Bidding closes Monday, August 23.  Proceeds benefit youth attending the National Youth Gathering next summer.

Support the Wadena Concert  Association
We don’t usually do community appeals in our news, but the concert association really needs your support.  Consider buying a ticket for this year’s series.  It’s good for 6 concerts this year — plus you can attend other events in other communities, too.  Talk to Jan Hillesland or Shirley Hamre for more information.

How Can Bread and Wine Do THAT?!!

We started our catechetical journey through Holy Communion last week.   As a reminder, last week’s except from the Large Catechism focused on the importance of confessing that the effectiveness of Holy Communion depends on God’s faithfulness.   Humans preside and participate in the meal.   But finally, it is God’s meal. Today’s excerpt from the Large Catechism discusses our doubt that bread and wine could possibly become Christ’s body and blood and provide forgiveness and eternal life: “(We) rant and rave, ‘How can bread wine forgive sins or strengthen faith?’ … (but) we do not claim this of bread and wine – for in itself bread is bread – but of that bread and wine that are Christ’s body and blood and that are accompanied by the Word.   These and no other, we say, are the treasure through which such forgiveness is obtained.   This treasure is conveyed and communicated to us in no other way than through the words “given and shed for you.”   …   Chri...

Youth News 3/9/22

A couple of items for Immanuel Youth and families 1. The season of Lent is upon us.  We strongly encourage families to fully engage.  We've got great, family-friendly meals planned (Sloppy Joes tonight; tacos next week!) at 5:30 and Holden Evening Prayer at 6:30, full of music, drama, and other stuff engaging for people of all ages.  Grow in faith together as a family!  If your family is willing to usher, talk to Pastor Nate 2. Youth Choir for any elementary aged kids is at 5:15 every Wednesday (kids involved in the communion milestone class can pop in after class!) 3. If you haven't already, we encourage you to get signed up for Bible Camp this summer!
