It has been a lousy week. On Tuesday morning, the phone rang with terrible news about a family in our community. The 35-year-old son of a Browerville family died very suddenly in his Twin Cities home. Tragic. Grief-filled. Confusing. We gathered in Roseville for a visitation on Friday and others gathered on Saturday for a funeral. Unbelievable. My heart aches for them. My heart aches with them.

But we gathered for worship on Sunday -- because that's what the church does. In times of grief and joy, boredom and excitement, we gather. And we trusted that God would be there with us. He was. Here's my sermon on the 23rd Psalm (I spend a little time out of the pulpit, so the sound drops a bit -- bear with me):

We assembled Layettes afterword, had fellowship, met with committees and our council and had an altogether busy and productive time as God's church. I look forward to a better week ahead (though there are never any guarantees, are there?)

And that's the news from Browerville.
