Amen!

This is our final week in the Lord’s Prayer.  Thank you so much for taking this journey with me.  Perhaps, though, we’ve saved the very best for last.  For the final words of the Lord’s prayer are the boldest words of the prayer.  Prior to this moment, everything in the prayer has been a plea, asking God that we might keep His name Holy, that His Kingdom would come, that we might receive daily bread and forgiveness and spare us from temptation and evil.  But the final words of the prayer are bold words of faith:

“For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.”

While we may not know exactly how God will answers our prayers, we ARE certain about the One to whom we pray.  This One is powerful and glorious.  This is the One to whom the Kingdom belongs.  Forever.

As Luther puts it: “[W]e are certain that (our prayers) are pleasing to our Father in heaven and are heard by him.”  Luther then reminds us that we pray because God has commanded us to pray – and not only that, He has promised to hear us.

So pray with confidence, my friends.  Ask the Lord for whatever you need.  Ask boldly and courageously.  Ask filled with faith.  God may not always give you the answer you desire.  But God will always hear us and answer us.  This one who is stronger than even death itself will always hear us and answer us in love and faithfulness.

May that promise give us strength and hope for the next leg of our journey.  Amen!
