God the Son

On-again, off-again winter/spring greetings to you in Jesus’ name!.

We started last week on a three-week series on the Apostles’ Creed.  So today, we learn about the second article concerning Jesus Christ.  And I will say to you what I have long said to confirmation students over the years.  If you memorize only on thing from your catechisms (and I hope you take to heart much more than just one thing!), let it be Luther’s explanation of the second article of the Apostles’ Creed.  For they teach us some of the sweetest words about God, this one who will stop at nothing to make us His own.  We’ve had two funerals here since I last wrote.  I have needed to cherish these words of promise again and again.  And since I have them memorized, I can recite them to myself any time, any place.  I share them with you today … and trust that God will help you savor them, too:

I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, Son of the Father from eternity, and true man, born of the Virgin Mary – is my Lord.  At great cost, he has saved and redeemed me, a lost and condemned person.  He has freed me from sin, death, and the power of the devil – not with silver or gold, but with his holy and precious blood and his innocent suffering and death.  All this he has done that I might be his own, live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness and blessedness, just as he is risen from the dead and lives and rules eternally.  This is most certainly true.

These words are like balm whenever my soul is troubled.  Our confession about Christ is simple: God loved us so much, that he sent his son to save us from death.  All that we might live with him forever.  Amen!

Holy Week Worship Plan

Here’s our plan for Holy Week.  On Palm Sunday (March 28), we will offer a service at 8:30am (in person and on Facebook).  We can overflow about 60 people into the fellowship hall for a total of around 120 people.  On Maundy Thursday (April 1), you can worship with us at 2pm and 6:30pm for a service of Holy Communion.  We will live stream the 6:30pm service.  Good Friday (April 2) will be available on live stream only at 6:30pm.  And on Easter Sunday (April 4), we will offer a service at 8:30am and 10:00am.  8:30am service will be live streamed.  We will continue to require masks and physical distancing for all our in-person services.  As always, we will offer a full-hour radio broadcast each Sunday at 9:30am on KWAD.  We hope you find a way to join us!  Call the church office with any questions.

Wednesday Soup Suppers

If you would like a comforting bowl of soup on Wednesday evening, swing past the church 5-5:45pm and pick up a meal for your whole family.  No need to pre-register.  Just show up by the parking lot doors and someone will serve you!  March 17, and 24!  And you’ll still get home to enjoy Holden Evening Prayer at 6:30 (Facebook, KWAD)
